Dr Rodney Berzoini Smith is Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs Europe, Daiichi Sankyo.
In his role, Dr. Smith is responsible for the establishment of a new Oncology Medical Organization in Europe. He has over 10 years’ experience in launching and managing molecules in oncology within both established pharmaceutical companies and smaller entrepreneurial organizations. From 2012 to 2017 he worked at Roche, serving as International Medical Director for Hematology followed by Group International Medical Director for Hematology at Roche.
Dr. Smith has had many papers published in peer-reviewed journals, including hematological, Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice and Cancer Gene Therapy. He has received a variety of awards throughout his career, including the Anísio Costa Toledo prize for Best Paper, Brazilian Congress of Head and Neck Surgery in both 1998 and 2000, 1998 Best Young Head and Neck Surgeon, Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia de Cabeça e Pescoço, 2011 Roche Value Award Brazil and 2014 Roche PD Awards.
He has extensive clinical experience as a MD in Oncologic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery, both in Academic and Private Hospital settings. He obtained a medical degree from the University of Sao Paulo Medical School in 1991-1996, and then went on to complete a residency in oncologic surgery, followed by a residency in Head and Neck surgery at Hospital das Clínicas of the faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. Dr. Smith also has a doctorate in immuno-oncology which he completed in 2006.
