Louise Burke, graduated in medicine from NUIG in 1987 and received her MD from the same institution in 2005. She trained in histopathology at CUH. She completed a Fellowship in the Pulmonary and Mediastinal Pathology department at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, DC, USA, incorporating research on Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in the laboratory of Dr. Curt Harris and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland. Following further pathology training at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA, she worked in France with Professor Francoise Galateau- Salle, Chairperson of the French and International Mesothelioma Panel. She is Consultant Histopathologist at CUH (1999-present), leading the thoracic histopathology service, and became Professor of Pathology in 2020. She is a Faculty board member (2012-present), served as Honorary Secretary (2016-2018), Dean-Elect (2018-19) and chaired the Histopathology Working Group (2012-2015). Her term of office as Dean is 2019-2022.
