Tomáš Kepák

Tomáš Kepák is a paediatric oncologist, a leading late-effect clinic's physician, head of the bone marrow transplant unit in Brno and one of the founding members of PanCare (Pan-European Network for Care of Survivors after childhood and Adolescent cancer). He has led and participated in local, national and international projects and initiatives towards achieving visions for person-centred medicine and improvement of cancer survivors' quality of life. He has been active in initiatives towards digitalisation and international harmonisation of cancer survivor data. His research interests include retinoblastoma, late effects of treatment, quality of life for survivors of childhood cancer, and high-dose chemotherapy. He contributed to the understanding of genetic and non-genetic determinants of ototoxicity and fertility in childhood cancer survivors.

He was involved in several European projects in the past decade (PanCareLIFE, PanCareFollowUp, smartCARE) and also in the implementation of the objectives of the Europe’s Cancer Beating Plan at national level, within the framework of the National Cancer Plan. He is a member of the advisory board for the National Contact Point for Health in the Czech Republic and also a member of the National Board of Paediatric Oncology, both being convenient platforms for knowledge transfer and advocacy. His aims to contribute to harmonising and improving care across Europe and to enable every paediatric cancer patient and survivor to achieve optimal quality of care.

He initiated the establishment of the first independent Czech organisation of cured childhood and adolescent cancer patients "Together towards Smile" in Brno. He is the founder of the first long-term follow-up clinic for childhood cancer survivors in Brno and a long-time advocate for its sustainability and continued development in the interest of survivors’ ever-improving quality of life. His long-term goal is to foster true partnership between pediatric cancer patients and survivors, their families.

In 2024 he has been nominated by the Czech National Society of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology and appointed SIOP Europe Ambassador for Czechia.
