Consultation for the development of an Inter-specialty Cancer Training Programme Curriculum

An important part of INTERACT-EUROPE is the development of an inter-specialty cancer training programme curriculum, which is the remit of WP2.

Inter-specialty training refers to training programme which integrates education and training to gain inter-specialty competencies and apply those competencies in practice. Inter-specialty training occurs when two or more specialties within professions or multidisciplinary teams learn from each other and practice in collaboration to provide quality cancer care.

In developing the curriculum, we attempt to answer the question “what is it valuable for trainees to learn in order to work more effectively with different specialties and professions to deliver better care and to provide psychosocial and nutritional support for cancer patients?”

As a first step, WP2 conducted a training needs analysis. The outcome of the training needs assessment was shared and discussed during a consensus meeting of INTERACT-EUROPE stakeholders and concluded in the development of a competency framework of 125 competencies that health professionals need to develop to meet the objectives of the inter-specialty cancer training curriculum. The competencies have been divided into the seven roles of a physician identified in the CanMEDS 2015 physician competency framework.

The competency framework is the basis of this consultation process, which is about the delivery of these competencies. The results of the consultation will be used to further develop the IST training curriculum. To participate in this consultation, please find here the template response form.
