Neil Pumford leads the Medical Affairs function for Europe, overseeing a team of around 1,100 professionals across 23 countries. His remit covers the full portfolio of medicines across multiple therapy areas, including oncology (such as CLL and ovarian cancer), immunology (RA, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease), neurosciences (Parkinson’s disease, migraine), and eye care. In this role, he is responsible for shaping strategy and delivery to ensure scientific and medical leadership for AbbVie’s medicines across Europe.

Neil has spent more than 12 years with AbbVie in roles of increasing responsibility, both in global functions and within the UK affiliate. His experience includes senior global leadership positions in Chicago as Vice President, Asset Leadership for Haematology Oncology and Eye Care & Specialty, as well as Asset Strategy Leader in Oncology. In the UK, he has served as Business Unit Director for Specialty Care, Medical Director, and Head of Immunology Medical Affairs. Prior to joining AbbVie, Neil held a variety of roles in commercial, medical and market access functions within the pharmaceutical industry. Earlier in his career, he founded a healthcare company focused on supporting people to receive care at home and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

Neil holds a medical degree (MB ChB) from the University of Edinburgh, an MBA from the University of Warwick, and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FFPM) in the UK.
