The Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) brings together its members and others in order to facilitate a variety of important pan-European research related actions, including the recent convening of a European Cancer Mission Working Party with the aim of producing and promoting high quality advise to Governments and the EU on European cancer research activity.

The European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) has led a major project on Recognising European Cancer Nursing (RECaN). RECaN has examined the status of contemporary cancer nursing across Europe and provided case studies for reflection and recommendation.

In the RECan project, EONS highlighted important differences in cancer nursing across Europe. EONS Cancer Nursing Index 2020 was developed by the EONS Advocacy Working Group to illustrate the development and status of this profession in Europe.
