09 July 2024

The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in the fight against cancer, especially cervical cancer, and to improve patient outcomes worldwide.

This MoU provides a framework for cooperation that covers:

  1. HPV Vaccination Awareness: Supporting UNFPA's work in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) to raise awareness about the human papilloma virus (HPV) and its link to cervical cancer. This effort includes participation in the EECA Regional Alliance for Cervical Cancer Prevention.
  2. Data Integration: Collecting and compiling relevant data from various countries into the European Cancer Pulse, a vital tool for monitoring and improving cancer care across Europe.
  3. HPV and Hep B Action Network: Collaborating within the network to enhance and expand prevention and care strategies.
  4. European Cancer Summit: ECO will collaborate with UNFPA during the European Cancer Summit and the PROTECT-EUROPE final event, 20-22 November 2024
  5. PROTECT-EUROPE Project: Involving UNFPA in the final event of the EU co-funded PROTECT-EUROPE project, and disseminating training outcomes within the UNFPA Alliance.
  6. Expert Connections: Connecting UNFPA with experts from ECO’s Focused Topic Networks to provide expertise on specific institutional activities of mutual interest.

By combining their resources and expertise, ECO and UNFPA are poised to make a substantial impact on cancer prevention and care in Europe and beyond.
