The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) is proud to present the European Cancer Summit Report. In the midst of a changing political climate in Europe, the Summit brought together experts, policymakers, and advocates to pave the way towards new horizons in cancer care. The European Cancer Summit 2024 took place on 20 and 21 November, in Brussels and online.
Developed in close collaboration with ECO's Focused Topic Networks, this report summarises the 11 Summit sessions, highlighting key takeaways and memorable quotes from the panellists. While delegates identified many upcoming challenges in cancer care, they also looked towards emerging opportunities waiting to be taken.
So what are we waiting for? The future of cancer care is now.
In an ever-changing world, the discussions highlighted in the report paint a picture of future cancer care in Europe and provide examples of new initiatives and inspirational stories. ECO also unveiled three flagship initiatives at the Summit: ‘Under Pressure: Safeguarding the Health of Europe’s Oncology Workforce’ Report, The European Cancer Screening Index, and The Pan-European LGBTIQ Citizen and Patient Survey – all of them developed with the help of member societies, patient advocates and the broader cancer community. More information is available in the report.
The European Cancer Summit Report includes a special stocktaking session featuring the former EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides. After five years of leadership and milestone achievements, including Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, it is time to reflect on the progress achieved. This turning point is also a call on the cancer community to ensure that the current momentum translates into meaningful improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for all patients.
