2023 IN CANCER POLICY
- The European Cancer Manifesto for 2024
'Time to Accelerate: Together Against Cancer' is a manifesto of recommendations for the future of EU cancer policy under the next European Commission 2024-2029. The manifesto was unveiled on 15 November 2023 during the European Cancer Summit. Read more.
- European Parliament agrees new report on Mental Health
Political action is urgently required to address the escalating mental health crisis in the European Union, as the current situation poses a significant threat to the well-being of its citizens. Mental ill-health indeed represents a silent pandemic, affecting 84 million Europeans, particularly the ones belonging to the most vulnerable groups. Read more.
- ECO congratulates European Parliament on NCD report
The Report calls for better prevention and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and closer cooperation between national health authorities needed and now represents the consensus position of the full Parliament. Read more.
- European Parliament agrees position on the European Health Data Space
The European Health Data Space aims to both (a) empower citizens to control their personal healthcare data and (b) facilitate secure sharing of health for research and altruistic (i.e. not-for-profit) purposes. Read more.
- ECO Responds to Consultation on the legislative framework for Tobacco Control
The consultation aimed to help evaluate to what extent the framework has fulfilled its goals and whether it is able to support a ‘tobacco-free generation’ by 2040, as announced in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Read more.
- ECO Feedback to the EU Ambient Air Quality Directive
ECO has responded to the European Commission’s invitation for feedback on proposal on a new Directive on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe. As promised within Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the European Commission is progressing a pledge to revise the EU’s air quality standards, to align them more closely with the recommendations of the World Health Organization. - ECO Responds to the European Commission Call for Evidence on the evaluation of Europass
The consultation invited public feedback to analyse the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value of Europass since 2018. Read more.
- ECO Responds to the European Commission Consultation on a Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health
The consultation aims to out sets action at EU level to promote mental health and prevent, mitigate and respond to mental health challenges. Read more.
- ECO Responds to the European Commission consultation on financial assistance to Ukraine
The consultation was associated to the development and implementation of an 18 bn euro financial assistance instrument for Ukraine, with objectives including “Rehabilitation of critical functions and infrastructure and relief for people in need”. Read more.

- Time to Accelerate: Action on Men and Cancer
Each year, thousands of men in Europe are diagnosed with cancer. There is an urgent need for action on all gender-related cancer inequalities, yet the issue of men’s cancers is not being addressed effectively by policymakers. Read more.
- Essential Requirements for Quality Cancer Care: Ovarian
Ovarian cancer is the 8th most frequent cancer diagnosis and the 8th leading cause of cancer death in women. The new document, crafted by European experts representing different disciplines, provides oncology teams, patients, policymakers, and managers with an overview of the critical elements needed in any healthcare system to establish high-quality ovarian cancer care. - Making the Difference: Pharmaceutical Access and Value
The European Cancer Organisation brought together policymakers, patient advocates, healthcare professionals, industry representatives and other experts, to analyse the political and regulatory landscape and identify potential consensus recommendations. Read more.

Key recommendations on how we can support more cancer care to be delivered effectively in the community setting. Read more.
EUROPEAN CANCER SUMMIT
EUROPEAN CANCER PULSE
An updated version of the European Cancer Pulse data visualisation tool was launched on 15 November during the European Cancer Summit. The online platform allows anyone to see at a glance the various cancer inequalities between and within European countries. Going beyond the EU-27, it collates data from across the WHO European Region. Read more.
ACCREDITATION
The Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE) offers our Member Societies and other providers of oncology education a simpler, more flexible approach to distance learning accreditation. Read more
ENDORSEMENT
The process of Endorsement Decision-Making enables the European Cancer Organisation to be fast and effective in reviewing endorsement requests. Read more
