The INTERACT-EUROPE project aimed to create an EU inter-specialty cancer training programme to foster a patient-centric approach to quality cancer care through the promotion of multi-disciplinary and multi-professional team working. The project seeked to advance the foundations of knowledge and understanding that different professions involved in cancer care have of each other.

The INTERACT-EUROPE - Communication and Leadership Course was a pilot event for trainees and cancer centres who were interested in getting involved in the inter-specialty cancer training programme that had been designed by the INTERACT-EUROPE Consortium.
Using a small section of the designed training programme, the pilot aimed to improve oncology professionals skills in Communication, Collaboration and Leadership and focused on the following competencies:

  • Communication with patients
  • Communication with colleagues during MDT meetings
  • Leadership skills

Those selected to take part in the pioneer cohort were given the opportunity to fully complete the inter-specialty cancer training programme in the successor INTERACT-EUROPE project.

The pilot was divided into two educational parts:

  • Pre-recorded online lectures
  • In-person event

The pre-recorded online lectures have been released before the in-person event to give each participant the opportunity to prepare themselves in their own time and at their own pace. They were held in English with translations available in French, Spanish, German and Slovenian.

The in-person event took place on 20 – 21 September 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal and included interactive workshops held over 2 half-days.
