Rocc-n-Roll
Project Duration: September 2020 to August 2023
This project has concluded its work.
The dynamic environment of medical applications of ionising radiation calls for the development of a co-ordinated and systematic European approach to research and innovation in medical applications of ionising radiation, with the aim to improve patient care and quality of life of the EU citizens.
This 3-year project coordinated by the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) aimed at analysing and generating a strategic research agenda for research and innovation in medical applications using ionising radiation and radiation protection. The final objective of EURAMED Rocc-n-Roll was to achieve better patient awareness and to make ionizing radiation risk communication more patient-centric.
ECO supported Work Package 3 on the health perspective and risk-benefit approach, with the objective to ensure the inclusion of a broad health perspective of the application of ionising radiation and radioprotection in the project. WP3 aimed at providing efficient participation of the different areas in healthcare to be considered in the risk-benefit approach and relying on health issues where the application of ionising radiation is most relevant for patient care but also in terms of radioprotection. As task leaders, ECO also contributed to the formulation of recommendations for future research, including the eventual necessity for centres of excellence in this field.
